Raymond E. Jenkins, 85, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 10:53 A.M. on Friday, October 6, 2013 at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Raymond was born on December 4, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of the late Garfield A. and Mildred A. (Collins) Jenkins. He married Dorothy Vogel on November 25, 1950 in Erie, Pennsylvania. Surviving family members include his wife: Dorothy Jenkins of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; son: Robert Jenkins and wife Jackie of Greeneville, Tennessee; 2 daughters: Diane Smith and husband Bill of Dix, Illinois and Kathy Shaw of Centralia, Illinois; 4 grandchildren: Sarah Morgan and husband Daniel of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Mary Kate Haddock and husband Jeff of Jackson, Mississippi, R. J. Shaw of St. Louis, Missouri and Anne Elizabeth Jenkins of Greeneville, Tennessee; 3 great grandchildren: J.W. Morgan and Tyson Morgan of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Veronika Rae Haddock of Jackson, Mississippi; several nieces and nephews also survive. His parents, one sister” Patricia Sarmento and a son-in-law: Rick Shaw preceded him in death. Raymond served in the U.S. Navy for two years, was president of Precision National Railway Corporation, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Mt. Vernon Elks (B.P.O.E.) Lodge 819, Mt. Vernon Moose Lodge #755 (L.O.O.M.), Mt. Vernon American Legion Post #141 and the American Scrap Iron and Steel Association. He loved playing golf, card games and spending time on his boat at Kentucky Lake. In honor of his wishes, Mr. Jenkins will be cremated. MEMORIAL MASS: will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Friday, October 11, 2013 at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. The Very Reverend Father John Iffert will officiate. VISITATION: A gathering of friends and family will follow the Memorial Mass and conclude at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, October 11, 2013 at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mt.
