    2.               INA - Darrell L. Bowland, 60, passed away Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at his sister's home in Toledo, Ohio.He was a former over-the-road truck driver and last worked for E. L. Henderson Trucking in Salem.Darrell was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, serving aboard the USS Constellation (CVA-64). He was senior vice commander of Disabled America Veterans Memorial Chapter 28 in Mount Vernon and also held the past position of sergeant of arms with the chapter.He was born July 6, 1953, in Pleasanton, Calif., to Glen Homer Bowland Sr. and Mildred Louise (Becker) Bowland. He was united in mar-riage with Margaret Louise Steinmetz on June 7, 2008, in Thompsonville.Survivors include his wife, Margaret Bowland of Ina; two daughters and son-in-law, Angelina and Nathan Michaud of Leavenworth, Kan., and Tiffany Bowland of St. Peters, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Alexcis and Austyn Marshall, Jordon, Bryce and Jeremiah Williams and Travis and Kaila Bowland; three stepdaughters, Caroline and Josh McSparin of Benton, Melissa Drennon and Damon Wilson of West Frankfort and Jamie Frymire and Anthony Gilio of Whiteash; stepson, James "Bobby" Kessel and Vanessa Jennings of Sacramento, Calif.; 11 stepgrandchildren, Mackenzie and Madison Smith, Hunter McSparin, Jimmy, Megan and Shane Drennon, Amaya Wilson, Charles and Gabrielle Frymire and Zachary and Emilea Gilio; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandy and Gary Nettles of Toledo and Darlene (his twin) and Frank Chenetski of Oregon, Ohio; brother, Glen Bowland Jr. of Toledo; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents.Darrell's favorite things to do were cooking, fishing, watching NASCAR races, collecting Dale Earnhardt Sr. NASCARS and NASCAR memorabilia, Coca-Cola items, spending time with his friends, and, most of all, he got great joy out of spending time with all of his grandchildren and stepgrandchildren.Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, in Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home, 2704 S. Park Ave., in Herrin with the Rev. Brian Mixion officiating. Members of Disabled American Veterans Memorial Chapter 28 will do a walk-through. Interment with military graveside rites, conducted by Herrin American Legion Post 645, Baker-Ladd VFW Post 1567 and Illinois Army National Guard Honor Detail, will be in Herrin City Cemetery.
