*In Journal Star of Peoria, Illinois on Nov. 6, 2013 (photo available) BRIMFIELD*- Darvin Carlton Prouty, 82, of Brimfield died at 12:01 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at his residence. He was born in Vernon, Ill., on Jan. 30, 1931, to Glen and Alice (Binnion) Prouty. He married Karen Steinke Henry on Aug. 15, 1998, in Kirkwood, Ill. She survives. Other survivors include six children, Jeff (Danielle) Henry of Milan, Shelley (Brian) Perkins of Alexis, Randy Thurman of Galesburg, Kim (Dawn) Thurman of North Liberty, Iowa, Lisa (Allen) Smith of Knoxville, Tenn., and Daphne (Sandy) Sanders of Irmo, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wives, Joan and Rose. Darvin was a member of the Elmwood United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee for many years. He was the former owner of the Yates City Telephone Company, owned and managed an apartment building and tavern in Elmwood, built and owned the Yates City Post Office and served on the Yates City town council. He was a member of Yates City Lodge 448, AF & AM; and the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria. He enjoyed traveling by motorcycle and RV and wintering in Arizona with friends. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the Elmwood United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood. Burial will be at Elmwood Township Cemetery.
