The Register-News, Mt. Vernon, IL July 11, 2014 William Jasper "Bill" Phillips, 62, of Mt. Vernon, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He was born on Sept. 28, 1951, in Mt. Vernon, a son of John and Juanita (Gossage) Phillips. He married Janet (Severs) Phillips, who survives in Mt. Vernon. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Zachery Phillips of Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Patricia Phillips of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Laura Walker of Mt. Vernon and Florence Logue of Branson, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John Phillips, James Phillips and Thomas Phillips; and one sister, Phyllis Bergeson. Bill worked in the maintenance department of Jefferson Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Pentecostal faith. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 14 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Dennis Myers officiating. The Phillips family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until the service time Monday at the funeral home.
