The Mt. Vernon Register-News Wed Jul 09, 2014 Dorothy C. Leathers, 90, of Mt. Vernon, died at 11:25 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2014, at Mt. Vernon Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon. She was born Wednesday, Nov. 28, 1923, in Nason, a daughter of Carl and Iva (Campbell) Farthing. She married Otis M. Leathers on April 19, 1941, in St. Louis, and he preceded her in death on March 29, 1991. She is survived by a son, Marvin Leathers of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren, Michael Leathers and wife Tammy of Chatham, Michelle Smith and husband Darrin of Dixon, Kraig Jones of Arkansas, J.T. Leathers of Mt. Vernon and Stephanie Hicks and husband Kevin of Waterloo; great-grandchildren, Geoffery Leathers, Shanis Walter and husband Christopher, McKenzie Callow, Zoe Smith, Will Hicks and Anne Hicks; great-great grandchildren, Greyson, Mackenna, Shealyn and Leighton Walter; three sisters, Mary Gowler of Mt. Vernon, Ila Schrum of Minooka and Sue Haney of Hammond, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Kaye Bass; a son, Otis Leon Leathers; and four sisters, Frieda Donnelly, Jewell Jones, Norma Jean Jones and Alberta Milliner. Dorothy worked at the Mt. Vernon Garment Factory until retirement, was a devoted mother and homemaker and a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. Services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 10, in the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn with the Rev. David Shores officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt.
