Mt. Vernon Register-News, Mt. Vernon, IL July 28, 2014 Verla J. Richardson, 64, of McLeansboro, died at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. She was born Feb. 17, 1950, in McLeansboro, the daughter of Millage and Edith (Essary) Thompson. She married Merle Langley, who preceded her in death. She then married Kenneth Richardson, who survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Merle Edward Langley III and wife Cathy of McLeansboro; stepson, Lewis Richardson of McLeansboro; two daughters, Jane Guthrie and husband Brian of McLeansboro and Tina Langley of McLeansboro; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren; three brothers, Larry Thompson of Dale, and Robert Thompson and Rex Thompson, both of McLeansboro; twin sister, Vera Smith and husband Tom of Dale; and sister, Teresa Brown of Dale. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband; great-grandson, Ezra Guthrie; a brother, James Thompson; and a stepdaughter, Becky Richardson. Mrs. Richardson was a retired cashier at Huck's Convenience Store in Carmi. She was a member of McLeansboro Eagles Lodge and the American Legion Post 106 Auxiliary. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery near McLeansboro. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
