Sheldon Is this William E. Fitzgerrell also a son of James Fitzgerrell (1777-1865) and Elizabeth Ray (1789-1874) ?? Note the mention of sister and brother living in Mt. Vernon, IL: From findagrave obit: Poseyville News dated April 12, 1901: Another of Robb township's oldest and most respected citizens answered the final summons Thursday night. Stanton Fitzgerrell, whose serious illness was mentioned in our last issue, passed to the great beyond at about 9 o'clock Thursday evening, surrounded by those to who his life was nearest and dearest. Mr. Fitzgerrell had been in very poor health all winter and gradually grew weaker until the end. His trouble seemed due to old age - a general breaking down of a system that had withstood the trial of life for over eighty years. Mr. Fitzgerrell was born in Gibson county March 17, 1819, and came with his parents to this township when a mere boy and had since been a resident of this township. At the time of his death he was 82 years and 17 days of age. In 1845 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Nancy Graham. To this union was born six children, three of whom preceeded him to the haven of eternal rest. Those alive are Louis D., Mrs. Tom Murphy and Mrs. Frank Montgomery, all residing in this community. Since the death of his wife some years ago Mr. Fitzgerrell had made his home with his son Louis. He also leaves two sisters and one brother - Mrs. Martha J. Stone, of Owensville, Mrs. Hiram Barker, of Mt. Vernon, and Daniel Fitzgerrell, of this township. The funeral was held at the family residence Saturday and the large attendance was a silent witness of the high esteem in which he was held by all. Eid. A.A. Shoultz, of Owensville preached a touching discourse, as well he might on the noble life he held in review. The deceased had for many years been a member of the Regular Baptist church and was always one of its most consistent and earnest memebers. His was indeed a life full of good deeds and many will mourn him as a stanch and true friend. The bereaved relatives and friends have the sincerest sympathy of all in their irrepaiable loss. I found a bio that confirms John S. Fitzgerrell was son of James and Elizabeth (Ray) Fitzgerrell: JOHN S. FITZGERRELL, the oldest citizen of Robb Township, Posey Co., Ind., was born March 17, 1819, in Gibson County, Ind., son of James and Elizabeth (Ray) Fitzgerrell, natives of Virginia and Kentucky, and born in 1777 and 1789, and died in 1865 and 1874, respectively. The father lived in different parts of Kentucky and Indiana, and finally came to Posey County, where he purchased 160 acres of land and remained until his death. He was quite wealthy and owned, at one time, 800 acres of land. In boyhood John S. went three miles to receive instruction. March 15, 1845, he married Nancy (Clism) Graham, born December 22, 1818. They have six children: Mary L., Elizabeth A., Jane E., James and Patsey Ann, twins (deceased), and Louis E. Mr. Fitzgerrell purchased 165 acres of land soon after marriage, which he has since increased to 230 acres, besides giving three of his children sixty-six acres of land apiece. As a farmer he has been very successful. He is a stanch Democrat and cast his first vote for Martin Van Buren. He was trustee of Robb Township for three. years; he and wife are members of the Regular Baptist Church.
