The Mt. Vernon Register-News, Monday, December 14, 1959 Arthur Foster Of Dix Dies At Age Of 75 Years Arthur C. Foster died at 8:10 a.m. yesterday at his home in Dix. He was 73 years, four months and 14 days old. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix with the Rev. Orlando Brakemyer officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Mt. Vernon. The body will lie in state at the Osborn Funeral Home where friends may call at any time. Mr. Foster was born in Belle Rive on July 29, 1884, the son of Frank E. and Nettie A. (Bennett) Foster. On Jan. 1, 1909, he was married to Martha Anna Boyles, who died Nov. 13, 1943. On June 19, 1950 he was married to Ruth Farquer Shepard who survives. Other survivors include two sons, Murland and Waldo Foster of Dix; a step-son Don Shepard of Boonville, Mo.; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Altiere of Joliet; a sister Mrs. Guy Summers of Mt. Vernon; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister, two grandsons and one great-grandson. Mr. Foster owned and operated the Foster Sinclair Service Station at Oakland and Salem Road for over 30 years before he retired. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church for 45 years.
