Vernon Register-News, Monday, June 17, 1968 Mrs. Rose Bishop Clegg Dies At 82; Funeral Tuesday Mrs. Rose Bishop Clegg, 82, died at 2:15 a.m. Sunday in Good Samaritan Hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Clegg who resided at 515 Broadway, was born in Hamilton county, on December 17, 1885, the daughter of Henry and Martha (Gass) Blackward. She married Charles Franklin Bishop who died in 1925. She later married Thomas Clegg who preceded her in death in 1940. Survivors include one son, Harry Lee Bishop, Sr., a former mayor of Mt. Vernon. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Mrs. Martha Lawson, of Springfield, Ill., Mrs. Jackie Lemon of Danville, Ill., Mrs. Norma Ranmar and Harry Lee Bishop, Jr., of Mt. Vernon. She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and one brother, Ben Blackward of Macedonia, Ill. Mrs. Clegg was a lifetime member of the Macedonia Methodist church, but attended the Epworth Methodist church in Mt. Vernon. She was manager of the Illinois Hotel here five years. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America for 41 years. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Myers Chapel. The Rev. Bayne Wilson will officiate and burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. The body will lie in state at may (sic.) call after 5 p.m. today.
