Southern Illinoisan Newspaper Sep 4, 2014 ELKVILLE -- Janet S. Engel, 66, passed away at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at her residence. She was born to the late James Wesley and Mildred Lucille (nee Thompson) Loucks on Aug. 21, 1948, in Tilden. She married Omer Engel on Jan. 28, 1977, in Cairo. He preceded her in death June 30, 2008. She had owned and operated Jan's Beauty Bar in Chester for many years and also had worked at Casey's General Store in Chester. She was a member of Gospel Assembly Church in Chester and Elkville, where she also played the piano. She was also a member of Eagles Club Aerie 3252 in Chester. Every Wednesday and Friday, Janet and her sisters (the Golden Girls) could be seen at the American Legion in Steeleville, playing cards with all their friends. Survivors include one daughter, Christina Lynn (David) Dunmyer of Elkville; three stepchildren, Linda Matilda Novack Waterloo, Floyd Clyde (Paula) Engel of Waterloo, and Kathy Marie (Fritz) Edwards Rockwood; two grandchildren, Dylan and Conner Dunmyer; five siblings, Helen (Sonny) Rinehart of Chester, Louella Marie (K. Max) Allton of Steeleville, Judy Ann (Earl) Pulcher of Ava, Shirley Jean (Marvin) Bell of Millington, Tennessee, and Linda May (David) Brandon of Elkville; brother-in-law, Kenneth Casey of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Beverly Loucks Evansville, Indiana; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Omer; one stepdaughter, Debra Sue Faverty; two sisters, Deloris Casey and Carolyn Rose Loucks; and five brothers, Jackie Ray Loucks, Lester (Bernadine) Loucks, Daniel Wesley Loucks, James Leroy Loucks and Randall Joseph Loucks. It was Janet's wishes to be cremated. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, in Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home in Chester, with the Rev. Mike Herrell officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home in Chester. Memorials may be made to the organization of the family's choice.
