Mt. Vernon Register-News, Mt. Vernon, IL Sept 10, 2014 Louise K. Hails, 91, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 11:15 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor. She was born June 23, 1923, in Kell, the daughter of George Curtis and Mamie Gertrude (Donoho) Alvis. On March 28, 1943, she married Roy W. Hails, and he preceded her in death in 1997. She attended Myers School, earned her GED in 1975, received her associate in arts degree from Rend Lake College in 1983, and graduated from Southern Illinois University on Aug. 4, 1984, with a bachelor in science in human resources, interning at St. Mary's Hospital in Orientated Social Services. She was a member of Union Chapel Methodist Church and was co-leader of the Centerfield Ramblers 4-H Club, with Wilma Hanes, for many years. She is survived by one son, Kenneth A. Hails of Texico; one daughter, Carol E. Burk and husband Michael of Texico; five grandchildren, Kenyon A. Hails and wife Cindy, Kimberly E. Hails, Kent A. Hails and wife Elizabeth, Bradley O. McBride and wife Sherry and Jennifer R. Thompson and husband Jason; three step-grandchildren, Amy Burk, Adam Burk and wife Susan and Andy Burk and wife Amanda; nine great-grandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and a close cousin, Ronald Shafer of Texico. In addition to her husband, Roy Hails, she was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Kerry Lee Hails; three brothers, James Curtis Alvis, Cleo Edward Alvis and William Earl Alvis; and a favorite aunt and uncle, William "Willie" and Bertha Shafer. Funeral services for Mrs. Hails will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix with the Rev. Elton Storey officiating. Burial will follow at Donoho Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
