The Mt. Vernon Register-News, Tuesday, June 7, 1949 Edward H. Carter Dies at Age 77 Edward H. Carter, a contractor, died at 4:30 a. m. today at his home, 900 S. 12th street. His age was 77 years, four months and one day. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p. m. at the Wesley Methodist church, with the Rev. O. E. Connett officiating, and burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. The body will remain at the Pulley Funeral Home, where friends may call at any time after 10 a. m. Wednesday. Mr. Carter was born February 8, 1872 near Ashley, Ill., the son of Joseph and Julia (Adams) Carter, He was a member of the Wesley Methodist church. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; one son, Neal of Los Angeles, Calif.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Roy E. Mays and Mrs. Lawrence Douglas of Mt. Vernon: one foster daughter, Mrs. Frank Hooker of Gainsville, Fla.; and two grandchildren. His first wife, two sons and ten sisters preceded him in death.
