Southern Illinoisan Newspaper Sept. 15, 2014 CHRISTOPHER -- Roy P. Kretz, 82, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, in Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, in St. Andrews Catholic Church in Christopher with Father Joseph Trapp officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher. Mr. Kretz worked for the Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake. He was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Christopher and Knights of Columbus, both in Christopher. Mr. Kretz served in the U.S. Army Ninth Signal Corps in Korea. He was born Dec. 22, 1931, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Roy Leo and Henrietta (Schmitz) Kretz. He married Mary (Chizmadia) Kretz on May 24, 1957, and she survives in Christopher. Other survivors include his children, Roy John Kretz of Benton, Robert C. and Lisa Kretz of Bluford, Catherine Kretz of Bloomington and Cindy Kretz and Dave Stark of Mulkeytown; and grandchildren, Roy John Kretz Jr., Shannon Kretz, Kali Boaz, Charles Boaz and Todd Boaz.
