    3. The Mt. Vernon Register-News, Monday, January 9, 1950 Nellie O. Fields Dies at Age 49 Mrs. Nellie O. Fields, of 226 S. 17th street, died at 2:10 a. m. today at Good Samaritan Hospital. Her age was 49 years, four months and six days. She was the widow of Hardy M. Fields. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p. m. at Myers Chapel, with the Rev. Ross Partridge officiating, and burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. The body will remain at Myers Chapel, where friends may call at any time after 10 a. m. Tuesday. Mrs. Fields was born in Hamilton county on September 3, 1900, the daughter of W. T. and Minnie E. (Winkler) Cates. On February 6, 1920 she was married to Hardy M. Fields, who preceded her in death June 16, 1945. Mrs. Fields was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist church. She is survived by one son, J. H. Fields, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Ray Kelly of Ronnie and Mrs. Elzina Giles and Mrs. Clyde Leffler of Mt. Vernon; and two brothers, Charles V. Cates of Centralia and Homer Cates of Mt. Vernon.
