Vernon Register-News September 18, 2014 6:00 am Foster Leroy Marlow was born Nov. 10, 1925 and died Sept. 11, 2014. “A man who works with his hands is a laborer. A man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman. A man who works with his hands, his brain and his heart is an artist.” - Louis Nizer The artist with the big heart and wondrous sense of humor has passed away. As he passed our way we were enriched and enlightened from walking with him. Along his journey he wore many hats: friend; rancher; retired professor emeritus; art department chair; instructor of college and university art, design, crafts, art history and elementary education certifying instructor; author and coauthor of art books and magazine articles; film strip, magazine editor, and reviewer; art teacher for high school, junior high and art supervisor for elementary schools; elementary school principal; pastor; father; husband; sailor; farm boy; and a lifetime student of life. His artistic media included painting, ceramics, welded sculpture, jewelry, print making, commercial art and many crafts. His early work included commercial and church murals and baptisteries. His creative works were displayed in many types of art exhibitions and as commissioned pieces. He is survived by brother, Logan Marlow; sister, Freda Shinkle; sons, Stephen and Mark Marlow; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
