Vernon Register-News, Saturday, May 28, 1960 Kate Blackard Dies At Age 81; Funeral Sunday Mrs. Kate Blackard of 520 Opdyke avenue died at 1:25 p.m. yesterday at Good Samaritan Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past seven weeks. She was 81 years, three months, and three days old. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Myers Chapel with the Rev. Donald Carlton officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. today. Mrs. Blackard was born February 24, 1879 in Mt. Erie, Ill., the daughter of Lee and Laura (Crawford) Rood. On Sept. 25, 1900, in Golden Gate, Ill., she was married to Samuel M. Blackard. who preceded her in death Dec. 18, 1938. Survivors include two sons. Arch M. and Samuel M. Blackard; two daughters, Mrs. Marian Jackson and Mrs. Mattie Lee Warren, all of this city; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Blackard was a member of the Epworth Methodist Church.
