Mt. Vernon Register-News, Mt. Vernon, IL Sept. 18, 2014 George E. (G.E.) Kissner, 92, a well-known businessman of Wayne City, died peacefully at 5:21 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. George was born Friday, Jan. 13, 1922, in Dix. George spent most of his years in Wayne City operating various successful businesses and partnerships. Among them were G.E. Kissner Grain Company and Feed Mill, Kissner and Weaver Farm Equipment and G.E. Kissner Cattle Company. He also operated a sawmill, farmed for several years, owned a large ranch in South Dakota and fed a large number of cattle in his feedlots. His passions were beef cattle, studying the commodity and stock markets and watching televised cattle auctions. He loved spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Maggie. George was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, Joan, George is survived by his sons, Bill (and wife Jeanne) of Wayne City, Bob (and wife Sandra) of Wayne City and Tom (and wife Judy) of Grand Chain; his daughter, Linda Buchanan (and husband Jim) of Bluford; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. the Wayne City Baptist Church on Friday. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Anyone know more about his mother's Laird family? I don't seem to have her in my Laird records but surely she must be related to my Laird line.
