Mt. Vernon Register-News Posted: Tuesday, September 2, 2014 6:00 am Robert Henry DeJournett, 77, of Bluford, died 1:58 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at his home in Bluford. He was born Friday, Dec. 18, 1936, in Bluford, the son of Elva W. and Edith A. (Crites) DeJournett. Robert served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a corporal during the Japan-Okinawa Occupation for four years and later was an over-the-road truck driver. He was a member of the Ruritan Club in Bluford and was an avid motorcyclist. He loved boating, camping and farming. He is survived by daughter, Carla Bryant and husband Rusty of Bluford; son, Rick Gutzler and wife Kathy of Dahlgren; seven grandchildren, Chandra Ballard and husband Steve of Mt. Vernon, Brandon Houle and Chad Houle of Bluford, CieJay Simms of Mt. Vernon, Rachel Bowman and husband Clint of McLeansboro and Carlray Gutzler of Dahlgren; three sisters, Betty Catron and husband Glen of Bluford, Ruth Wilson of Wayne City and Barbara Wilson and husband Ron of Mt. Vernon; brother, Loren DeJournett of Mt. Zion; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jean on April 11, 2010; one brother, Carl DeJournett; one sister, Leona Greko; a grandson, Derek Houle; a great-grandson, Journey Houle; three nephews, Danny Wilson, Karl Greko and Joe Wilson; and a sister-in-law, Mary DeJournett. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bluford Church of God in Bluford with Mr. Marty Mills officiating. Interment will be at Salem-Mateer Cemetery in Wayne County. Members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct fill military honors at the cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Morning visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bluford Church of God.
