Vernon Register-News, Monday, July 26, 1965 Blanche Bates Dies At Age 81; Funeral Tuesday Mrs. Blanche Bates, of 2413 Cherry street, died at 8:15 p.m. Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital at the age of 81 years, four months, and six days. She was the wife of Harry L. Bates, former chief time clerk at the Mt. Vernon Car Manufacturing company. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the First Methodist church, of which she was a member, with Dr. Don Crocker officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Monday. At noon, Tuesday, the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour. Mrs. Bates was born Mar. 18, 1884, in Dale, Ind.. the daughter of Willis S. and Missouri (Wilkinson) Bryant. On June 19, 1906, In this city, she was married to Harry Lee Bates, who survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Helen Shurtz of Oak Grove, Ky.; a son, Bryant L. Bates of Newport, Oregon; a step-sister, Mrs. Martin Hudson of Boston, Mass.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bates was a member of the Mt. Vernon Order of Eastern Star.
