Mt. Vernon Register-News, Mt. Veron, IL Posted: Friday, August 29, 2014 6:00 am Mary Sword Mary Olive Sword, age 97, of Mt. Vernon, passed away 12:23 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at the Mt. Vernon Residential Living Center in Mt. Vernon. Mary was born Dec. 25, 1916, in Waltonville, a daughter of Joseph H. and Myrtle E. (Dodds) Norris. She married Charles Sword on Dec. 21, 1945, in West Frankfort, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1999. Mrs. Sword was a lifelong teacher and retired from Summersville Grade School. She attended the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Vernon. She is survived by two children, Robert Sword and wife Jeannean of Mt. Vernon and Sharon Lea Warmack and husband J.D. of Ranson, W. Va.; two grandchildren, Dustin Sword and Gabriel Warmack; and also several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Harry, Louis, William "Bill" and Russell Norris; and also one sister, Sadie Howard. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m Wednesday in the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodlawn with Pastor Tim Reynolds officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday in the chapel. For those wishing, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Mt.
