Vernon Register-News, Monday, August 12, 1968 LaVerne Tate Dies Suddenly At Age 49 Years LaVerne Tate, 49, of Route 3, died suddenly yesterday. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Pulley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Roy VanHorn officiating. Burial will be in the West Salem cemetery and Jefferson Post 141 of the American Legion will be in charge of graveside military rites. The body will lie in state at the Pulley Funeral Home where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. today. Mr. Tate was a crane operator and a member of the American Legion. He served in World War II with the Navy. He was born October 20, 1918, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Henry and Mary Jane (McCoy) Tate. Mr. Tate was married June 28. 1967, to Helen Ramsey Wilson. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Larry Tate, of Peoria, one daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Sue Goddard, of Chicago; one brother, Elliott Tate, of Sarasota, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Gaskins, of Patoka, Ind., Mrs. Louise Yeargin, of Calumet City, Ill., and Mrs. Minnie Yeargin of Gary, Ind.
