The Mt. Vernon Register-News, Monday, October 15, 1962 Lola GaVette Dies At Age 65; Rites Tuesday Mrs. Lola Vern GaVette, 65, of 132 Castleton Ave., died at 3:25 p. m. Saturday at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Tuesday at the Myers Chapel, with the Rev. Edward Mayfield officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel, where friends may call after 4:00 p. m. today. Mrs. GaVette was born April 11, 1897, in Jefferson county, the daughter of Norman and Cora (Maynor) Smith. On December 24, 1914, she was married to Alva R. GaVette, who preceded her in death in 1950. Survivors include four sons, Doral E. and Orian E., both of Mt. Vernon, Leon of North Ridge, Calif., and Sfc. Wm. R. of Fort Rucker, Ala.; two brothers, Graydon and Harry Smith, both of Mt. Vernon; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mrs. GaVette was a member of the Baptist church.
