MT. VERNON - George C. French, 76, of Mt. Vernon, died Thursday morning, Nov. 4, 2010, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born on March 11, 1934, in Bluford, the son of Stanley Robert and Juanita Elizabeth (Greenwalt) French. He married Reva C. Scott on Oct. 4, 1953, at the bride's parents home. Mr. French was the service manager for Bayer Oldsmobile dealer for many years. He attended Campground Grade School and graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School. He loved the Lord and enjoyed attending church at East Salem Baptist Church and enjoyed old cars and mowing grass. He loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed watching baseball with his son Steve. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. In addition to his wife, Reva French of Mt. Vernon, he is survived by his children, Brenda Loyd and husband Roger of Scheller, Steven French of Mt. Vernon and Linda Breeze and husband Brian of Bluford; his grandchildren, Nicole, Melissa, and Cindy Loyd and Luke and Matthew Breeze; a sister, Betty Southerd and husband Bob of Texico; an aunt, Margie Michael and husband Kenneth of Centralia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter. His funeral service will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix with Richard McCormick and Leland Redfern officiating. Burial will follow at East Salem Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
