Melvin E. "Mel" Green, 64, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 12:33 A.M. on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at his home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He was born on Sunday, June 9, 1946 in Evansville, Indiana the son of the late Andrew and Mabel (Harrell) Green. Surviving family members include his special friend and companion: Christine Campbell of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 2 sisters: Sharon Neabuhr of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Louise Newton of Evansville, Indiana; several nieces and nephews also survive. His parents, two brothers: Andrew Green, Jr. and Emmett Harrell, Jr. and one sister: Grace Ruston preceded him in death. Mel was employed as a supervisor at Olsen Magnetic in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, was later an insurance agent and most recently had worked at Lowe's of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and was of the Baptist faith. VISITATION: will be held from 5 to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. FUNERAL SERVICES: will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, December 24, 2010 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Reverend Don Verhines will officiate. INTERMENT: Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
