To: <iljeffer-l@rootsweb.com> Carmi Times Posted Dec 22, 2010 @ 05:05 PM Flora, Ill. - Richard Ray "Dick" Sweetin, 75, of Flora, died at 4:13 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon, Ill. He was born March 30, 1935 in Mt. Vernon, Ill., the son of Glenn V. and Clara Evelyn (Dolby) Sweetin, and was married July 3, 1955at Whittington to Mary B. Kern, who survives. Mr. Sweetin was a field supervisor for Halliburton Services, retiring after 39 years. He was a former resident of Carmi and Crossville. He was president of the Clay County Genealogical Society and a member of Oak Street Missionary Baptist Church in Flora and Benton Masonic Lodge 64. Mr. Sweetin was very active in the Clay County Food Pantries. Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Doy and Donna Sweetin of Carmi; a daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Bob Malone of Overland, Mo.; four grandchildren, Jill Marshall and her husband, Mike, and Amy Barnett and her husband, Dustin, all of Carmi, Angela and Amber Sweetin of Flora; five great-grandchildren, Mason, Mary Jane, Avery, Drake and Myles; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27 at Oak Street Missionary Baptist Church in Flora, Pastor Alton "Butch" Shedd officiating. Interment will be at Bethel Cemetery at Mt. Vernon, Ill. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday a Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorials may be made to Clay County Ministerial Food Pantry. ------------------------------
