Betty Ruth Greene, 85, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at Mt. Vernon Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon. She was born on Friday, Dec. 4, 1925, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Walter E. and Madie Marie (Moore) Fisher. She married Bobby Gene Greene on Aug. 4, 1947, in Mt. Vernon. She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant son, Timmy Gene Greene; and eight brothers and sisters. Betty was a sales clerk at J.C. Penney in Mt. Vernon. She was a member of the Protestant faith. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at East Hickory Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County with the Rev. Chuck Ellis officiating. Interment will follow at East Hickory Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation. In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by two children, Gary Lee Greene and wife Earlene of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Terri Lynn Huntman and husband Donald of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
