Born April 10, 1922, in Mt. Vernon, "Chub" married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Brumbaugh, served in the Navy during World War II, and moved back to Mt. Vernon after the war. Dot and Chub raised two sons, Michael (Suzanne) of Edmonds, Wash., and Christopher (Dayna) of Monticello, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents, lifetime Mt. Vernon residents Jacob Olen and Jennie Verne Cowger Jones; his wife, Dorothy; three brothers, Walter, Robert and Charles; and two sisters, Helen Grimes and Frances Johnson. Chub is survived by his sons and their wives, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; his sister, Juanita Turner; and a brother-in-law, Beechworth Brumbaugh III of Mt. Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Chub was a carpenter in younger years, and continued to enjoy woodworking as a pasttime in retirement in Bradenton, Fla. He was a member of the American Legion, where he was commander of the Mt. Vernon post and also the Amvets, Moose Lodge and the Oneco Methodist Church in Bradenton. His family and friends will fondly remember his melodious whistling and harmonica playing. Until the end, he always had a unique reply when asked how he was doing, "Finer than frog hair," was his answer; it always brought a smile.
