CYRIL DEAN CATES, 67, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 6:55 A.M. on Christmas Day, 2010 at his home in Mount Vernon. He was born on Wednesday, February 17, 1943 in Mount Vernon, a son to the late Cyril Delton & Annabelle (Flanagan) Cates. He married Brenda Puckett in 1962 and she preceded him in death in 1973. He married Nita Elaine Bourland in Woodlawn, Illinois on April 6, 1974 and she survives in Mount Vernon along with Son: Robert Dean Cates and wife Terri of Mount Vernon; Daughter: Kristen Stewart and husband Tony of Warsaw, Indiana; two Granddaughters: Whitney Cates of Mount Vernon and Sophia Stewart of Warsaw, Indiana; Great Grandson: Landon Henry of Mount Vernon; Brother: Lee Cates and wife Sue of Mount Vernon, and Sister: Sue Stewart and husband Larry of Mount Vernon, Illinois. Several Nieces and Nephews also Survive.His parents, his first wife, two sons: Randy and Eric Cates and one brother: Jackie Cates preceded him in death Dean was a self-employed contractor, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodlawn, the Masonic Lodge #31 A.F.& A.M. ; he loved traveling, drag racing and tinkering with cars. VISITATION will be from 5 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, December 30, 2010 in the Chapel at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois, with Mr. Brent Musgrave officiating. INTERMENT will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.
