- Charles A. Gholson, 78, of McLeansboro, passed away at 11:26 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at McLeansboro Health Care and Rehab Center. He was born in Broughton on April 2, 1932, a son of Randall and Georgia (Pierce) Gholson. He was a retired salesman with Olin Chemical Corporation. Mr. Gholson was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War and a member of Blooming Grove Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Interment will be at Blooming Grove Cemetery with graveside rites performed by American Legion Post 106 of McLeansboro. Mr. Gholson is survived by two sons, Sam Gholson and wife sandy of Blue Springs, Mo., and Sy Gholson and wife Cheryl of Paris, Mo.; daughters, Lisa Hollingsworth and husband Dennis of Paris, Mo., and Ingrid Drone and husband Terry of McLeansboro; 13 grandchildren, Talia Gholson, Kelsey Velaer, Brittany and Olivia Gholson, Aaron, Brent and Terry Gholson, Michelle Hollingsworth, Ashley Morgan, Justin Whitlow, Jessica Whitlow and Leslie and Katherine Drone; one great-grandson, Kyler Whitlow; brothers, Jim Gholson of Carmi and Jerry Gholson of Evansville, Ind.; and sisters, Elizabeth Neal of Marion and Annette Webb of McLeansboro. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Joe and Dick Gholson; and by two sisters, Sylvia Drosdahl and Elsie Auxier. Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of arrangements.
