Rowland Charles Akin, 85, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away 9:27 A.M. on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Akin was born on June 4, 1925 in Tom, Oklahoma the son of the late Fred and Gladys Akin. Surviving family members include his 2 sons: Brent Akin and wife Kathy of The Woodlands, Texas and Roland Akin and wife Dawn of Opdyke, Illinois; 9 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister: Dolly Ivey; several nieces and nephews also survive. His parents preceded him in death. He was a member of the Westside Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois and was a warehouse supervisor for a grocery store chain. Per his wishes there will be no services held.
