Billie Joe York, 80, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 9:50 P.M. on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mr. York was born on Monday, November 4, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois the son of the son of the late Clarence Edward, Sr. and Opal Mae (Skinner) York. He married Margaret McKay on December 3, 1949 in Morganfield, Kentucky. Surviving family members include his wife: Margaret York of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; son: Stan York and wife Diana of Henning, Tennessee; daughter: Diane Lentz of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 3 grandsons: Jeff Hicks of Texas, Chris York of Henning, Tennessee and Michael York and wife Chrystal of Ripley, Tennessee; 3 great granddaughters: Kelsey, Shelby and Gracie Hicks; 2 great grandsons: Ryan and Jacob York; brother: Charles York and wife Judi of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 3 sisters: Mary Tracey and husband Bill of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Beverly Higginson and husband Jerry of San Antonio, Texas and Emily Edwards of San Antonio, Texas; several nieces and nephews also survive. His parents, one infant son: Duane York, one brother: Clarence Edward York, Jr., one sister: Nedra Hayes and an infant sister: Sissie York preceded him in death. Billie Joe worked for General Tire in Mt. Vernon for 20 years retiring as a manager; he was later employed by Stan The Tire Man in Mt. Vernon for 22 years and he was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. VISITATION: will be held from 5 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. FUNERAL SERVICES: will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Pastor Wayland Middendorf will officiate. INTERMENT: Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
