MT. VERNON - Vera Wanda Choate, 83, of Wayne City, passed away at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Lavender Ridge in Mt. Vernon. She was a homemaker and actress. She was a member of First Christian Church in Wayne City and the Wayne City Eastern Star. Vera and her husband owned and operated Bisbee Comedians for many years and toured the south and midwest. She was born May 27, 1927, in Keenes, to Vernon and Lottie (Wood) Thomason. She married Billy Choate, who preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 2006. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Wayne City with LaMar Choate officiating. Burial will follow at Thomason Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church in Wayne City. Vera is survived by her sons, Welby Choate and wife Pat of Clarksville, Tenn., and LaMar Choate and wife Staci of Wayne City; a daughter, Cherita Beehn and husband David of Wayne City; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City is in charge of all arrangements.
