    3. MT. VERNON - Norman C. Wester, 92, of Mt. Vernon, died at 12:50 a.m. May 6, 2011, at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville under the care of loving family, friends and staff. He was born May 30, 1918, in Harrisburg, the son of Neophas and Ethel (Castelberry) Wester. He married Afton (Adelsberger) Wester in Van Buren, Mo., on June 28, 1941, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 30, 1994. He is survived by a brother, James Wester of St. Louis; a sister-in-law, Audrey Layton of Troy; nieces Robbin Kapp and husband Rod of Smithton, Marcie Foster and husband Bill of Worden, Jayma Hawkins and husband Rich of Troy, Janice Wester of St. Louis and Debbie Quartz and husband Dan of Belleville; nephews Tony Wester and wife Bev of Belleville and Ricky Wester of Belleville; many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews who all loved him very much; and several loyal friends of the Frosty Mug. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 52 years, two sisters and two brothers. Mr. Wester was a retired insurance adjuster. He proudly served his country in the Army as a medic during World War II. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Father Bert Iffert officiating. Visitation will be from noon until service time Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodlawn. Full military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 141 at the cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9153 in Waltonville and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
