Melissa Lucille Johnson is the granddaughter of Johann George William, WANGLER Sr.and Caroline "Carrie" PFEISTERER, both of whom migrated from Baden, Germany. Carrie migrated with her parents around 1850 while George migrated on his own arriving in the port of New Orleans, April 20, 1854. He married his first wife, Rosina Brender in Clinton CO., IL 16 Sep 1861 and they had 6 children. A substantial number of individuals from the Baden area settled in Clinton Co. when they left Germany. George next married Carrie 20 Aug 1878 and they had at least 8 children. According to family legend, Carrie's family was originally from the Alsace Lorraine area in France who, in the 1500's because of the persecution of the Huguenots, fled to the Odenwald area around Heidelberg - Baden/Wittgenstein along the Neckar River in the Neckar valley. Both George and Carrie are buried in Saint John's Cemetery, Piopolis, Hamilton, IL. In a message dated 5/23/2011 3:08:57 P.M. Memorial donations may be made to Diabetes Research. Rev. Danny Cash will officiate. Melissa Johnson was born in Belle Rive, IL on September 5, 1922, to Frank and Nora (nee Martz) Wangler. She married Harry Paul Johnson on March, 26th, 1940. He preceded her in death on March 27th, 1976. Survivors include grandchildren Scarlett Tosh and husband Matt, of Tunnel Hill, Michael McGee of Frankfort, Tim McGee and wife Jean, of Pittsburg PA, Jeff McGee and wife Christi of Marion and Darla Horn and husband Terry of Creal Springs. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Aaron McGee, Bryan McGee, Elizabeth Horn, Mathew McGee, Brenna McGee, Cole Tosh, Katie Tosh and David Horn. One brother, Earl Wangler, and two sisters; Meriam Childress and Erma Lee Bernard also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 5 brothers and 7 sisters, and 3 daughters; Mona Johnson, Janet McGee and Myrna "Jo" Smith. Melissa Johnson was a beloved and devoted grandmother and great grandmother. She was known to all as "Granny J". She loved to bake for her family, sew, quilt and travel. She lived to spoil and love her grandchildren.
