James Anson Scott, 82, of Belle Rive, Illinois passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Illinois. Mr. Scott was born on Sunday, June 17, 1928 in Hartman, Arkansas the son of the late John and Jesse Jane Matilda (Darney) Scott. He married Gerline Kelley and she preceded him in death on April 8, 2005. Surviving family members include his son: Lonnie Scott and wife Barb of Granite City, Illinois; 4 daughters: Connie Richardson and husband Danny of Belle Rive, Illinois, Sharon Bradshaw and husband Pat of Addieville, Illinois, Mary Miller of Mascoutah, Illinois and Sheila Schoenbeck and husband Dean of Red Bud, Illinois; 3 stepdaughters: Melanie Andrews of Alabama, Angela Andrews of Chicago, Illinois and Candace Andrews of St. Louis, Missouri; 4 sisters: Eilene Crabtree of Arkansas, Lorrine Ramsey of Dexter, Missouri, Johnnie Davis and husband Russell of Essex, Missouri and Querita Marvel of Wyoming; brother: Joe Scott of Essex, Missouri; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. His parents, wife, one sister: Stelline Tyler and one granddaughter: Nancy Scott preceded him in death. James served with the U.S. Army in the 58th Signal Battalion from July 5, 1946 to March 13, 1947. He owned and operated "Red's 66" gas station in Dupo, Illinois for 20 years and later worked as a custodian at St. Catherine's School in Cahokia, Illinois. VISITATION: will be held from 5 to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. GRAVESIDE SERVICES: will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 21, 2011 at Belle Rive Cemetery in Belle Rive, Illinois. Chaplain Ernie Collins will officiate. INTERMENT: Belle Rive Cemetery in Belle Rive, Illinois. Members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct Full Military Honors at the cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to American Heart Association and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O.
