Randall John Svanda, 57, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He was born Jan. 11, 1954, in Murphysboro, the son of Otto Svanda and Eldean (Fritsche) Svanda. He is survived by his parents, Otto and Eldean Svanda of Mount Vernon; a sister, Nancy and Paul Knop of Sparta; one niece, Heather and Tyson Moonier of St. Louis, Mo.; two nephews: Ryan Knop of Belleville and Drew Knop (Amy Joiner) of Sparta; and two great nieces, Shay and Lana Moonier of St. Louis, Mo. He was president of Svanda Motors Inc., of Mt. Vernon. Randall was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge of Mt. Vernon. He was also of the Lutheran faith. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville with the Rev. Bruce Cameron officiating. Burial will be at Ava Evergreen Cemetery in Ava. Visitation will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and then on Monday from 7:30 am until the hour of service. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
