Bernie Lee Richardson, Sr., 86, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 8:28 A.M. on Friday, February 11, 2011 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Richardson was born on June 3, 1924 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois the son of the late John Robert Richardson and Maggie Mae Dugan. He married Celia L. Baber on June 28, 1947 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Surviving family members include his wife: Celia Richardson of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; son: Bernie Lee Richardson, Jr. of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; grandson: David Lee Hicks-Richardson of Maryville, Illinois; several nieces and nephews also survive. His parents, sister: Cleora Britton and brothers: Dwight, Kermit and Cassel Richardson preceded him in death. FACTS Bernie served in the United States Army with the 863rd Engineers during the Pacific Campaign in World War II. He worked as a Locomotive Engineer with the Illinois Central Railroad and was a lifetime honorary member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was also a member of Logan Street Baptist Church and lifetime member of the VFW. VISITATION: will be held from 5 to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. FUNERAL SERVICES: will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, February 14, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Reverend Jimmy Bledsoe will officiate. INTERMENT: Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Logan Street Baptist Church in Mt.
