Eddie R. Smith, 68, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 7:15 P.M. on Monday, January 31, 2011 at his residence in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Smith was born on December 28, 1942 in Jefferson County, Illinois the son of the late Marion L. Smith and Media A. Fields. He married Patricia Williamson on December 31, 1965 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois and she preceded him in death on December 14, 1997. Surviving family members include his daughter: Tera R. McAdoo and husband Quint of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; son: Bryan Smith of Evansville, Indiana; 2 grandchildren: Josh Bauer and Cory McAdoo both of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; sister: Mary Jo Hanes and husband Mike of Carbondale, Illinois; 3 nieces: Cindi Cox of Orlando, Florida, Mary Inez Hill of Fairfield, Illinois and Lisa Breithaupt and husband Jason of Waterloo, Illinois; nephew: Robbie Hill and wife Cheryl of Alton, Illinois; close family friend: Julie Goree of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. His parents, wife, brother: Maxey Smith and two sisters: Vivian Pauline Cox and Inez Hill preceded him in death. ddie worked as a job site foreman for J.K. Trotter Construction Company for 20 years and was a self employed concrete finisher. He served in the United States Marine Corp. during the Veitnam War. He was commander of the Young Marines for over 10 years and chairman of Young Marines Ball for several years. He was also a member of the Amvets, VFW, American Legion, Elks and the Mt. Vernon Gun and Sportsman Club. VISITATION: will be held from 5 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, February 5, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Flag Presentation Service will be held at 8:00 P.M. on Friday, February 4, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Chaplain Ernie Collins will officiate. In accordance with Mr. Smith's wishes he will be cremated.
