Ronald Wayne Smith, 67, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 2:47 A.M. on Friday, February 4, 2011 at his home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Smith was born on Friday, December 31, 1943 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois the son of Johnnie C. and Venita Louise (Tate) Smith. He married Joyce Isaac on November 4, 1990 in Memphis, Tennessee. Surviving family members include his wife: Venita Smith of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; wife: Joyce Smith of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; son: Jeff Smith and wife Tina of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 3 daughters: Kathy Byerley and husband Joe of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Gina Schenk and husband Richard of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Penny Russell and husband Monty of Dix, Illinois; 11 grandchildren: Miranda, Joshua, Meagan and J.J. Smith, Andrea McGuire, Blake and Cassie Byerley, Michael and Adam Shafer and Sonny and Dylan Russell; 3 great grandchildren: Alexia and Camden McGuire and Regin Shafer; sister: Jean Hopkins and husband Philip of Belle Rive, Illinois; nephew: Brad Hopkins of Belleville, Illinois; cousin: Arlene Austin and husband Owen of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. His father preceded him in death. Ronald was an over-the-road truck driver for over 20 years until his health deteriorated; he also worked for Jax Asphalt Company in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, was a member of Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge #31 A.F. & A.M., East Salem Baptist Church and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and the Ainad Shrine Temple of East St. Louis, Illinois and he enjoyed vacationing in Florida. VISITATION: was held from 5 to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. FUNERAL SERVICES: were held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, February 7, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Reverend Frank Huston officiated. INTERMENT: East Salem Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois.
