Juanita Rose Adams, 90, of Rock Falls, Illinois passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at her home following a long illness. Mrs. Adams was born Friday, September 17, 1920 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois the daughter of the late Elmer John and Ruby (Richards) Hawkins. She was united in marriage to Roy Earl Adams on April 2, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri until his death on March 11, 1991. Surviving Mrs. Adams are two daughters: Donna Dodson and husband Charles of Sterling, Illinois and Sharon Bradford and husband Jimmie of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and one son: Roy Adams of Henderson, Nevada; eight grandchildren: Greg Dodson and wife Nancy of Kingwood, Texas, Cheri Lockhart and husband Dave of Sterling, Illinois, Brad Dodson and Chrystal Greaves of Rock Falls, Illinois, Riki Bradford and wife Buffie of Mint Hill, North Carolina, Ron Bradford and wife Elizabeth of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Rod Bradford of Akron, Ohio, Roy Adams and wife Jeannie of Sparks, Nevada and Laura Adams of Laguna Niguel, California; nine great grandchildren; two sisters: Betty Wallace of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Nancy Gunn of Freeport, Maine; three brothers: Elmer Hawkins of Daytona Beach, Florida, Richard Hawkins of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Larry Hawkins and his wife Kay of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Ronnie Ray Adams and a grandson. Mrs. Adams was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Sterling. Mrs. Adams was also a past member of the VFW Auxiliary, the WWII Veterans Auxiliary, Rock Fall's Women's Club as a past vice president and was actively involved in the PTA and Brownies. Her father made the first crosses to be placed on the public square for Memorial Day. As a young girl she dropped poppies on markers during the nine first services. FUNERAL SERVICES: will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, February 25, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Reverend Ed Sprinkle will officiate. VISITATION: will be held from 9 to 10:00 A.M. on Friday, February 25, 2011 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. INTERMENT: Kirk Cemetery in Ina, Illinois. For those who wish, memorials may be given to Hospice of the Rock River Valley of Sterling First Church of the Nazarene and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
