MT. VERNON - Betty Jane Black, 87, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 6:05 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was born on Saturday, April 21, 1923, in Mt. Vernon, to William and Lillian (Eller) Badgett. She married Henry Black and he preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 2010. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with Marty Mills officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Betty is survived by a son, James Henry Black III and wife Marilyn of Marana, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Donna A. Green and husband John of Opdyke; a grandson, Jeffrey Scott Black and wife Lisa of Downers Grove; three step-grandsons, Roger Green and wife Brenda of Mt. Vernon, Randy "Buzz" Green and wife Stephanie of Mt. Vernon and Kevin Green and wife Bobbie of Bonnie; two great-grandchildren, Samuel Thomas Black and Katherine Joy Black of Downers Grove; eight step-great-grandchildren, Samantha Green and fiancé Greg of Centralia, Jason Green of Mt. Vernon, Haley Green of Mt. Vernon, K.J. Green of Bonnie, Nikolas Green of Mt. Vernon, Victoria Green of Mt. Vernon, Tom Wade and friend Sidney of Mt. Vernon and Libbie Wade of Pinckneyville; two step-great-great-granddaughters, Danica and Emily Wade of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Opal Johnson of Americus, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Her parents and her husband preceded her in death. Betty worked at the International Shoe Factory and for J.C. Penney Company before retiring; she attended South Hickory Hill Christian Church and she was a member of the Rebekah Lodge.
