MT. VERNON - Merle E. "Jack" Bigley, 90, of Mt. Vernon, died at 3:50 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2011, at Mt. Vernon Health Care Center. He was born in Chester on Feb. 20, 1921, the son of John Thomas and Lydia Pearl (Taylor) Bigley. On July 3, 1946, in Mt. Vernon, he married Imogene Ellis; she survives in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Bigley retired from Mt. Vernon Truck body and was a World War II veteran serving from 1942 to 1946 as an Army Medic. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Allen Bigley and wife Valerie of Ina; a daughter-in-law, Teri Bigley of Ellettsville, Ind.; a grandson, Drew Bigley and wife Ashley of Casa Grande, Ariz.; three granddaughters, Tonia Shadwick and husband Mike of Rossville, Ga., Lacy Truitt and husband Kris of Greenville and Cortni Bigley and fiancé Stephen Medley of Ellettsville, Ind.; and two great grandchildren, Jamie Shadwick of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Michelle Shadwick of Rossville, Ga. Mr. Bigley was preceded in death by his parents, a beloved son, Jack Bigley, three brothers, Rozella, Buell, and Tom, and two sisters, Pearl Gibbs and Lucille Scoffield. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix with Marty Mills officiating. Burial will follow at Harmony Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Activity Fund at Mt.
