Man arrested in stabbing death INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Metropolitan Police arrested a man in connection with the stabbing death of his live-in girl friend last Thursday night. Steven A. Davis, 27, was charged with the murder of Dawnita Gibson, 35, at their 7628 W. St. Clair St. home. Police were alerted to the scene following a 911 call of a disturbance at the location between a man and a woman. When police responded, a male voice responded, but did not answer the door. When more officers arrived, they made entry into the home and found Gibson suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses told police that a black male had fled from the rear of the residence prior to the second group of officers arriving. About an hour later, Davis was located on Crawfordsville Road, near Girls School Road. According to FOX 59, Gibson had been fighting with Davis prior to the incident. "She had broken up with him," Sam Gibson, Dawnita's ex-husband told FOX 59, recalling a phone call just prior to the murder. "I heard him in the house saying to Dawnita, 'I want to talk to you.' She told him, 'I don't want to talk to you, you can call me.' Then she started talking to me on the phone again. She said 'if I don't call you back in 10 minutes, get on the road and get on up here (to Indianapolis).'" Gibson, who told FOX 59 that he remained close to his ex-wife after the divorce, said he heard Davis "kicking on the door and banging on windows" when he called her back after not hearing from her immediately. Gibson also reported that Dawnita was a mother of four children and had moved to Indianapolis from Mount Vernon, Ill.
