    3. Wesley V. Conner, 87, "Went to be with the Lord" on March 23, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 27, at the Rescue Free Will Baptist Church with Brother Bryant Harris and Brother Kent Dunford officiating. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Benton American Legion and VFW posts will be in the Franklin Cemetery in Whittington. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, and after noon Sunday at the Rescue Free Will Baptist Church. Wesley was born on Nov. 18, 1923, the son of Isaac and Addie (Dethrow) Conner. He married Bertha Erma Lee (Cockrum) on July 19, 1942, and she survives. Wesley was a member of the Rescue Free Will Baptist for 52 years and was choir director for 37 of those years. He was a World War II veteran and did nursing to those soldiers who were severely injured during World War II. Mr. Conner is survived by his wife, Erma Lee Conner of Benton; daughters, Katie and Jerrel Dungy of Ewing, Ruth and Kern Kirk of Logan, and Paula Tate and Jim Briscoe of Benton; seven grandchildren, Karen Kay Dungy and Albert Margelli, Rhea Eva and Joey Hutchcraft, Matthew and Andrea Dungy, Eric Kirk and Kelly Yearack, Tom and Amanda Kirk, Erin Moore and Jason Bennett, and Molly Tate; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Wesley was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Stanley, Raymond, Paul, Lendell and Joseph; and one sister, Lucille Houseworth. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Conner's memory may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc., or to Rescue Free Will Baptist Church.
