Lowery Harrison Loman, 87, of Elkville, passed away at 6:42 A.M., Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the Carbondale Memorial Hospital at Carbondale. Lowery had worked as a sorter and supervisor for the United States Postal Service from 1958 until 1987. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was born March 4, 1924 at Waltonville, IL, the son of James Harrison and Iva Belle (Bradley) Loman. He was united in marriage with Betty Gulley on December 13, 1947 Ashley, IL and she survives. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years - Betty Loman of Elkville, one daughter - Betty Mildred (Loman) Winchester of Elkville, three sons - Harry Loman of Elkville, Richard Loman and wife Deborah of Springfield, IL, and Lance Loman and wife Amie of Springfield, IL, nine grandchildren - Tina Lynn Loman of Kansas City, MO, Casey Loman of Phoenix, AZ, Matthew Loman and wife Tracy of Elkville, Eric Winchester and wife Suzie of Alto Pass, IL, Jason Winchester and wife Melissa of Christopher, IL, Kaleen Whitaker and husband Justin of Vergennes, IL, Bradley Loman of Springfield, IL, Brett Loman of Champaign, IL and Meghan Loman of Springfield, IL, four great grandchildren - Jenna Winchester and Gabe Winchester, both of Alto Pass, IL and Macy Whitaker and Wyatt Whitaker both of Vergennes, IL, two great step grandsons - Jimmy Parmly in the Air Force in England and Jacob Parmly of Alto Pass, IL, one sister - Ina Whitsel of Mt. Vernon, IL and two brothers - Bill Loman and wife Marlene of Sesser, IL and Kenneth Loman and wife Judy of Mt. Vernon, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters, daughter-in-law - Pamela Loman and grandson - Michael Todd Loman. Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Elkville Cemetery at Elkville with Bro. Gary Pruitt officiating. Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery. There will be no visitation. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion. Friends may make memorials to the St. Jude's Children Research Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home. Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin is in charge of arrangements.
