JOHNSTON CITY -- Glen Gene McCabe, 71, passed away at 1 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011, in Heartland Medical Regional Center. Glen was born Dec. 18, 1939, in Mount Vernon to Clinton and Helen (Cochran) McCabe. He married Harriett Osman on Nov. 12, 1966, in Marion. Glen and Harriett shared 44 years of marriage together. Glen was a retired coal miner, having worked at Freeman United Orient No. 6. He also was very involved in his community, having served as a Johnston City alderman, volunteer firefighter, auxiliary police officer and member of the Johnston City police and fire merit board. Glen also was a member of Benton Masonic Lodge 64 and UMWA. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, playing cards and fishing. He also enjoyed baseball and was an avid Cardinals fan. Glen is survived by his wife, Harriett Osman-McCabe of Johnston City; two sons, Glen Dutcher and wife, Pam, of Chichester, N.H., and Scott McCabe of Johnston City; seven grandchildren, Desiree Brown of Chichester, N.H., Maricel Dutcher and Nicholas Casiple of Jacksonville, Fla., Thomas Dutcher and Tyson Dutcher of Orange Park, Fla., Daniel Guetersloh of Johnston City and Cherish Fogt of Ballwin, Mo.; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis Sanford and husband, Bill, of St. Peters, Mo. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, special friends and caregivers, Sharon and Frank Olkoski of Herrin, and other special friends too numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Frances Thompson and Barbara Marlow; and one brother, Tommy Thompson. Masonic rites will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011, with celebration of life services afterward in Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City, with the Rev. Danny Campbell officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital . Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.
