Charles Ray Neal, 69, of Mount Vernon, Illinois died at 12:26 P.M. on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at his residence in Mount Vernon. He was born on December 27, 1941 in Mount Vernon to parents Harvey and Samelda (Davis) Neal. He married Marlene (Lee) Neal on March 20, 1965 in Bedford, England. He is survived by his wife: Marlene Neal of Mount Vernon, three daughters: Nicky Stewart of St. Petersburg, Florida; Lisa Smith and husband Lee of Godfrey, Illinois; and Michelle Neal of Mount Vernon, a son: Chris Neal of Mount Vernon, six grandchildren: Chelsea Witzel; Ray Stewart; Tara Koch; Braden Smith; Reif Sloan; and Rayne Sloan, two great grandsons: Rhylyn Sloan and Owen Koch, two brothers: John Neal and Walter Neal and wife Barbara all of Mount Vernon. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Lester Neal and Duke Neal. He served in the United States Marine Corp., attended St. Mary Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, enjoyed fishing, and was a member of the American Legion Post #141 and the Mount Vernon Gun and Sportsman Club.
