Michael Howard "Mitch" Cantway, 60, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 11:15 A.M. on March 16, 2011 at his residence in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Cantway was born on April 22, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois the son of the late Howard Anthony and Claudia Maxine (King) Cantway. Surviving family members include his aunt: Phyllis Hilliard of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; cousin: Christie Hilliard Franklin and husband Keith of Pine Grove, California; several other cousins survive; close friends: Mark Henry and Joey Hanks of Salem, Illinois, Bobby and Christie Penrod and family of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Mike Baldridge of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Bill & Rita Penrod and family of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. His parents preceded him in death. Michael served with the United States Navy during the Vietman Era from 1968 to 1972, worked for the State of Florida Institution for the Mentally Retarded, was a caseworker for the Illinois Department of Human Services, was a courier for Quest Diagnostics of Mt. Vernon and was a member of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post #141 and the Methodist faith. GRAVESIDE SERVICES: will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 25, 2011 at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Illinois with Full Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #141.
