Lowell Genevieve Wimberly, 88, of Benton, formerly of Salem, died at 1:40 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2011, at the StoneBridge Senior Living Center in Benton. A?funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 17, at the Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Salem. Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Lovell was born on July 8, 1922, in Kell, the daughter of Everett Peters and Amy (Donoho)?Peters. She married Elwyn Leon Wimberly July 15, 1938, in St. Louis. Her husband and her parents preceded her in death. A homemaker, Lovell was a member of the New Life Church of God in Benton. Mrs. Wimberly is survived by two daughters, Martha Babb and husband, Al, of West Frankfort, and Marilyn Ponzer-Morris and husband, Steve, of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Jeff Babb and wife, Denise, Dara Barnes and husband, Shane, Amy Dollins and husband, Mike, Deidre Flanagan and husband, Michael, and Jonathan Ponzer and wife, Gretchen; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Delora Tabor, Mildred Vaughn, Lorene Brown and Ruth Bryan.
