MOUNT VERNON -- Darlene Turner, 69, died at 4:55 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2011, in St. Mary Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was born Sunday, June 22, 1941, at Sand Ridge, to Clinton David and Alice (Morber) Mifflin. She married Arthur Turner on Aug. 10, 1959, in Mount Vernon. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, in Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Stacy Tate officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 20, at the funeral Home. Survivors include her husband, Arthur Turner of Mount Vernon; sons, Clinton Turner and wife, Lisa, of Mount Vernon, and Bill Turner of Opdyke; daughter, Cheryl Perrin and special friend, Chris Jackson, and son, Nicholas, of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Terry Morgan and wife, Ashley, of Mount Vernon, Lacy Perrin of Mount Vernon, Trace Turner of Mount Vernon, Crayton Turner of Mount Vernon, Maggie Turner of Mount Vernon; great-grandchildren, Jerika Morgan of Mattoon, Julana Morgan of Mattoon, Trinity Morgan of Mount Vernon, Gabriel Morgan of Mount Vernon; brother, Roger Mifflin and wife, Barbara, of Mount Vernon; sister, Charlotte Morgan and husband, Andy, of Mount Vernon; sister-in-law, JoAnn Mifflin of Woodlawn; longtime best friend, Judy Parr of Mount Vernon; and loving pet, Lady. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Her parents; one brother, Albert Mifflin; mother-in-law, Iona Turner Matherly; and father-in-law, Arthur Berdell Turner, preceded her in death. Darlene attended school at Mount Vernon Township High School and was involved in the Quill and Scroll group and the Mr. Cross Assistants, later graduating in 1959. She also attended Rend Lake College graduating in 1975, Southern Illinois University Carbondale graduating in 1977, and became a certified public accountant as of 1978. She was the circulation manager for the Vernois Newspaper, president of the Desk and Derrick Association of the United States and Canada in 2002, and was a longtime member of the Mount Vernon BPW. She also served as the treasurer for Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, Jefferson County Crime Stoppers, and held the position of co-chairwoman for Christmas for the Needy for many years. She attended Friedens United Church of Christ in Irvington, was an avid reader and great cook and loved to quilt.
